Ukrainian Forces Hit Russian Oil Refinery Using British Storm Shadow Missiles.

As part of a notable military action, Ukrainian forces have employed long-range Storm Shadow missiles to target and hit a key Russian oil refinery. The attack was carried out Thursday, as stated by the country's military command.

Attack Particulars and Military Significance

The plant in question, the Novoshakhtinsk oil plant, was reportedly hit, with "numerous explosions" recorded at the location. This represents not the first instance where Ukrainian forces has deployed these powerful British-supplied missiles to hit targets on Russian territory.

Military spokespersons emphasized that the Novoshakhtinsk facility serves as one of the primary providers of petrol products in Russia's south and is actively engaged in providing for the military of the Russian Federation.

Political Discussions on the Conflict

In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday that he held productive discussions with representatives of ex-President Donald Trump, namely Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. These talks centered on potential pathways to end the war.

“We had a very productive conversation: numerous specifics, good ideas, that we discussed,” Zelenskyy wrote on a social media platform. “There are some fresh concepts on how to move toward a genuine peace closer, and it concerns approaches, meetings, and, of course, the schedule.”

Legal Crackdown Within Russia

In a parallel internal matter, a Russian court has convicted a pro-war activist and critic of Vladimir Putin on charges of supporting terrorist activities. Sergei Udaltsov, head of the Left Front movement, was sentenced to six years in a penal colony.

This case are said to be based on an article Udaltsov shared in support of another group of Russian activists charged with forming a terrorist organisation. Udaltsov has rejected the charges as politically motivated and, after the sentencing, reportedly announced to go on a hunger strike in protest.

Foreign Prisoner Case

Russian authorities indicated it is engaged with French authorities concerning the fate of Laurent Vinatier, a French political scholar currently serving a three-year sentence in Russia and reportedly facing additional accusations of spying.

An official said that Russia has presented a proposal to France regarding Vinatier, and now “the ball is in France’s court.” President Emmanuel Macron’s office stated he is closely following the situation, with all state resources mobilised to provide consular support and advocate for his release as soon as possible.

Controversial Reopening in Occupied City

The Mariupol Drama Theatre, which was leveled in a devastating bombardment while many civilians were sheltering in its cellar, is set to reopen. Russian occupation authorities have heralded the reconstruction as a symbol of recovery.

Conversely, previous staff from the theatre have called the planned opening as “a macabre spectacle.” The reconstruction is part of a wider Kremlin effort to present its rule in occupied Ukraine, a process accompanied by the arrest or exile of critics and confiscation of assets from local residents.

It is due to reopen by the month's end with a show of a classic Russian story, following its reconstruction largely anew over the last 24 months.
