This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller stands strong without requiring a sequel. Set in the late 70s in Denver, multiple kidnappings has made the local kids anxious. But the non-functional line on the wall continues to ring, with eerie communicators providing assistance, and the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, late evening, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic about the fallen televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. Both individuals begin monetising the nation's religious faith. It's a spectacle of poor styling, bad makeup and hypocrisy, however Chastain achieves to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, late night, on Film4
