The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
