The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial championship series after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that situation other than Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work this season.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
