Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
