Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Additional Developments

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
