Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Patients

Legal authorities report that a ex- physician stands accused of performing assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.

The Grave Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One senior CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
