Fans Urge Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are calling for that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a event pathway surrounded by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two very different witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, securing two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
