Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
